Thank you to our many runners, walkers, sponsors, and partners who participated in the 4th Annual Legs Against Arms 5K & Celebration of Youth on April 11! The event was an overwhelming success - beautiful weather, nearly 700 runners and walkers, over 500 youth, appearances from Mayor Nutter, Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr and Deputy Mayor Gillison, and over 20 teams, many of which were running in memory of loved ones lost to gun violence.

The energy of the day was evident from the kids playing on the track to the runners crossing the finish line to the beat of the Phoenix Drill Team drums. Ultimately, this day was about remembrance and awareness. As Sean Allen, South Philly High student, put it, “I just think with us representing the people who didn’t make it – maybe it will make their families a little happier”. And a parent of a lost child, “I think about him every day. I just don’t want my son’s murder to be in vain”. Legs Against Arms is one of the culminating events for the City’s youth violence prevention initiatives in the coming year.
