Read Riva's story here.

So, who inspires you to run? Are you planning to run in honor or memory of someone at LAA in April?

Each year, many teams form to run in memory of those lives lost or affected by gun violence. Here are some of the stories shared by past participants:

"I am running on behalf of Tyrell Hinton, who in 1996 lost his young life to gun violence on the streets of Pittsburgh. Tyrell was the son of a very good friend, who has never been the same since that awful day in April 13 years ago. I have seen first hand how one senseless act affects many lives for years after."

"Last September, on the day before our students were to return from their summer break, there was a fatal drive-by - just outside the playground fence. The shooter used an AK-47. Had school been in session, it would have been rececss time. In April, in order to make this city a safer world for my students and every other child in our city, I am running to end youth violence in Philadelphia."

"My immediate and extended family lacked a place to celebrate the life of my mom. We did not have a time that celebrated the good of her life without feeling the pain of our loss. The Legs Against Arms Run/Walk provided my family with the opportunity to participate in an event that she would have thoroughly enjoyed. We have the chance to remember all the traits we love about my mom with the people she loved most."
